Clarke Washington Horstmann First To Cross Yard Of Bricks In Indianapolis

Indianapolis, IN | Porsche is back in Indianapolis over the Labor Day weekend to celebrate its long history of competitive road and racing cars. Additionally, there are trackside activities for viewers of all ages. At the Sports Car Together Fest, the second annual headliner at the prestigious Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) by Porsche, two of the German sports car manufacturer’s best performance models—the GT range of road vehicles and its top one-make race series—will be on display. The gathering of Porsche GT cars is expected to be the largest ever, and the 50th anniversary of the RS model will also be highlighted at the event.

Race 1 of 2 took place today with both the GT4 Club Caymans and the GT3 Cup 992 and 991 taking to the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway. A wet start was declared for the Cayman race this morning forcing all competitors to switch to the rain tires. Weather conditions forced a nearly 30 minute delay. After things got underway, 5 laps of green flag racing got in before an incident caused the rest of the race to take place under yellow due to extensive tire wall repair. Winning the shortened Cayman Race 1 was Connor Horstmann. P2 in the Cayman class was Kenny and rounding out the Cayman podium in P3 was de La Torre IV.

Conditions got better for the GT3 Cup Race later in the afternoon and the sky started to clear, but there was still moisture on the track. Tire failure in the race caused championship points leader, Carazo, to retire from the race early. Carazo was running P1 Overall at the time of the incident. Winning the North America GT3 Cup 992 Class was Kyle Washington who took P3 Overall after coming fresh off a win at Utah Motorsports Campus. P2 in the 992 class was Bellomo who placed P4 overall. Rounding out the 992 GT3 Cup podium was Todd who placed P6 Overall. The North America GT3 Cup 991 class was won by Dan Clarke who also placed P1 Overall. In 2nd place for the 991 class was Llibre who took P2 Overall. Rounding out the podium for the class was Menti who placed P5 Overall. On the USA West side of things, the GT3 Cup 991 class was won by John McInnes who took P12 Overall. Taking 2nd place in that class was Ayers who placed P23 overall.
